Crazy Stone – A Guy Ritchie-esque Comedy Caper from Mainland China
An ex-cop with prostate problems, his side kick obsessed with winning a lottery, the art workshop owner who employs both of them, his slimy son who is trying to impress a girl, the girl’s con-artist boyfriend and his gang of two sidekicks, a master thief robbed by this gang, a shady businessman who employed the master thief and the businessman’s assistant who has a tiff with the ex-cop. At the center of all these interconnected characters is a precious stone.
“Crazy Stone” is reminiscent of the yesteryear Guy Ritchie films before he dedicated himself to the Sherlock Holmes franchise with Robert Downey Jr. who himself is busy being Iron Man. What the movie lacks, when compared to Guy Ritchie films, is the narrative which introduces a character or the background to a scenario. This makes it a little confusing to follow for the first 20 minutes or so till all the characters are introduced. After that it’s one twist after another that keeps the viewing guessing till the end.
This movie, from mainland China, boasts a cast and director who were not famous at the time of making. The only famous person associated with this movie was its producer, Andy Lau. This breakthrough hit launched the career for the stars that went on to make the commercial hits ‘Lost in Thailand’ and ‘Breakup Buddies’.http://subsplease.com/2015/03/crazy-stone-a-comedy-caper-from-mainland-china/http://subsplease.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/Crazy-Stone-Feature.jpghttp://subsplease.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/Crazy-Stone-Feature-300x300.jpgChineseChinese Film
